Empowered as Witnesses – Acts 1:8

On Pentecost Day, 23 May 2010 the Africa Assemblies of God will officially launch the Decade of Pentecost.

The Decade of Pentecost theme for 2010 is “Empowered as Witnesses – Acts 1:8.” On 23 May AAGA is calling on each of the 50 affiliated national churches in sub-Sahara Africa and the Indian Ocean Basin to launch the Decade of Pentecost initiative in their own countries.

National churches can launch the Decade of Pentecost on Pentecost Day 2010 by calling on every pastor in each of their churches to preach a message on Acts 1:8, emphasizing the baptism in the Holy Spirit and the Great Commission of Christ. At the close of their sermons the pastors will call their people forward to be filled and refilled with the Spirit according to Acts 1:8 and 2:4. (Sermon outlines can be found by clicking this link. Promotional helps can be found by clicking this link.)

The potential of this simple plan is staggering! At present we have about 60,000 Assemblies of God churches in Africa. If each church was to see only five new believers filled with the Spirit, we would immediately see 300,000 new Spirit-empowered witnesses added to our ranks. As these newly-Spirit-empowered disciples are mobilized and pointed to the harvest, hundreds of thousands of new believers will be brought into the kingdom of God.

National leaders can find a downloadable Decade of Pentecost planning guide entitled The Decade of Pentecost: A Way Forward: Suggestions for Assmblies of God National Churches on How to Engage in the Decade of Pentecost by clicking this link.
